Your 23andMe report shows you ancestry, a handful of trait quirks, and a small selection of "Health Predisposition" reports — but the raw genotyping data behind it covers roughly 600,000 SNPs. That file is yours to download, and most other genomic-health platforms (including Atlagene) accept it directly.
This guide walks through exporting your raw data file from 23andMe in 2026, step by step.
Before you start
You need a desktop browser. The 23andMe mobile app does not surface the raw-data export option as of 2026. If you used 23andMe before 2017, you may need to reset your password — but the genetic data is still there, regardless of when the kit was processed.
If you are between 13 and 17, you'll need a parent or guardian on the account to do the export.
Step 1 — Sign in
Log in at 23andme.com on a desktop or laptop browser. Confirm any 2FA prompts.
Step 2 — Open your account menu
Click your name in the top-right and choose Browse Raw Data. On the Browse Raw Data page, switch to the Download tab.
Step 3 — Verify password and request the file
23andMe requires a password re-entry before exporting genetic data. Enter your password, then click Submit Request.
The request is queued — you do not get the file immediately. Most users receive an email from noreply@23andme.com with subject "Your raw data is ready" within an hour, sometimes sooner.
Step 4 — Download the .zip file
Click the link in the email and download the .zip file. Don't extract it. Atlagene reads the .zip directly, and so do most other platforms. File size is typically 5–15 MB depending on which chip version 23andMe used (v3, v4, or v5).
Step 5 — Upload to Atlagene
Sign up for a free Atlagene account and drag-drop the .zip on the upload page. The format is auto-detected; no manual selection needed. Analysis takes about 10-20 minutes, driven by the depth of the 20-category analysis rather than by file size.

Privacy notes
Your raw data file is sensitive — it identifies you genetically. Treat it like a tax return. If you upload it elsewhere:
- Make sure the destination is HIPAA-compliant (Atlagene is).
- Read the privacy policy for whether the company sells or shares data (Atlagene does not).
- Request deletion if you change your mind.
What if my export fails?
If 23andMe says "no kit on file" but you remember sending one in: the kit was likely never received or processed, or you are signed in to the wrong account. Check the email address. If 23andMe support cannot find the kit, no raw data exists.
If the email never arrives, check your spam folder, then resubmit the request. The original link expires after 30 days; a new request resets the timer.
