If you've already used 23andMe, you have a raw DNA data file sitting in your account that contains far more information than 23andMe's own report uses. Here's how Atlagene compares.

What 23andMe is for
23andMe's strength is ancestry composition and DNA Relative Finder. If you want to know your ethnic breakdown or find unknown relatives, 23andMe is the right tool — that's where most of their R&D investment has gone.
For health, 23andMe ships a relatively narrow set of reports: about 10 health-predisposition findings (BRCA1/2, Late-Onset Alzheimer's risk via APOE, hereditary thrombophilia, hemochromatosis, a few others), some carrier screening, and "wellness" reports like caffeine metabolism and lactose tolerance.
After their 2025 bankruptcy and subsequent acquisition, the health-report roadmap has been uncertain. Pharmacogenomics, which 23andMe briefly offered, was discontinued.
What Atlagene adds
Atlagene reads the same raw DNA file 23andMe gave you and runs it through analysis across 20 health categories — the full range your file actually supports.
That includes:
- Pharmacogenomics: 200+ drug-gene interactions across CYP2D6, CYP2C19, HLA-B, DPYD, TPMT, and more. CPIC-graded recommendations. Includes FDA boxed-warning variants. Learn more.
- Cardiovascular: Coronary artery disease risk, lipid metabolism, Lp(a), thrombophilia, atrial fibrillation, arrhythmia/QT, hypertension.
- Oncology: BRCA1/2, MUTYH, Lynch syndrome panel, CDKN2A, multi-cancer polygenic risk scoring.
- Nutrition: Vitamin metabolism (B6, B12, folate, D, E, K), mineral absorption, food sensitivities (lactose, gluten, caffeine, alcohol), antioxidant/detox capacity.
- Sleep & circadian: Chronotype, melatonin synthesis, sleep architecture, narcolepsy autoimmune loci, restless legs.
- Athletics & fitness: Muscle fiber composition, endurance vs power, recovery rate, injury predisposition, exercise safety.
- Brain & mood: Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, MS, epilepsy, migraine, neurotransmitter genetics.
- Helix AI chat: Premium users can ask questions about their results in plain language; the AI is grounded in their actual genome data.
- Personalized supplement plan: Aggregated across all 20 health categories with priority scoring and dosage logic.
See the public variant registry for the full list of variants we analyze.
What Atlagene does NOT do
We don't sell DNA kits. (Yet — Atlagene-branded kits are planned for a later release.) We don't provide the same depth of ancestry-relative-finding 23andMe does. We don't diagnose — physician review is the paid product for clinically significant findings.
Pricing
23andMe: $99–199 per kit (one-time), plus optional add-ons.
Atlagene: free tier shows 5 categories. Premium ($14.99/mo or $119/yr) unlocks all 21 plus pharmacogenomics, AI chat, supplement plan, and polygenic risk scores. Premium + Physician ($29.99/mo or $249/yr) adds unlimited physician reviews. Family plan starts at $39.99/mo for 2 members.
Should you switch?
Use 23andMe for ancestry. Use Atlagene to read what's already in the file you have. They aren't really competing — Atlagene is what 23andMe could have been if they'd kept investing in health.
